My Stepdad David Blades

This past year had been a rollercoaster of emotions!  I had 4 people very close to me pass away, 2 of them being my fathers. My step dad was one year ago on April 13th.

The picture is my Mom & Dave

My step dad passed away in April 2013, he had been battling cancer. Until I seen what Dave went through, I never realized how awful cancer could be. Dave was very sick and in so much pain, that it was hard to comfort him and tell him anything like “you will be ok” or that there was some medicine that would help him.

Me and my mom spent months in and out of the hospital being told one day he has days to live, the next he’s getting better, then being told he wouldn’t make it till Christmas, then getting to spend Christmas with him.  There were days when the entire hospital could hear Dave in pain, there were days he was laughing, you never knew what you were going to walk into. There were days I would get calls at work and Dave would tell me he just found out he had cancer…he had lost his memory.  Yet no matter how stressful it was for me, I knew it was harder for mom and Dave then anyone.  Mom did so much for Dave in and out of the hospital, even when Dave was not sick enough for the hospital, he needed round the clock care at home.

My mom never stopped, she stepped up and she was amazing. Dave would tell me often how much he loved mom over his last months and that she was his angel.. But he didn’t need to tell me, I seen how he looked at mom and how mom cared and loved Dave in everything she did.

Dave was so loved by his family and it showed because his family, friends and coworkers all made sure he never spent 1 hour of any day or night alone for almost 2 months. Everyone took turns helping mom when she couldn’t be there. After months of this continuing..my mom was exhausted. I am forever grateful for the people that helped and understood what we were going through.

It was so sad when Dave left but also a relief because Dave was in so much pain.

I think of Dave often. I knew how much he loved me because he told me often. This bear was a gift he got me for my first Christmas with mom. He told me before he died that he wished he had had kids, but that I was also one of the best things to happen to him.

Dave was kind, gentle, loving and a very amazing person. He treated my mom like an angel. Dave never had a mean thing to say about anyone, I only ever heard him speak kind words. Dave treated me like his daughter and I remember him telling mom he wanted to pick out my Christmas gifts from him, not Mom. He wanted it to be special from him. Dave was there for me for many hard times in my life and I never forgot that. When someone was mean to me he would offer to beat them up for me lol but I knew he was joking! Dave understood my constant battle with weight and food as Dave loved food almost as much as I do lol. Step parents have a special place in your heart, Dave was kind and loving to me always! I loved Dave like a father.

Dave asked me to make him something for the nurses that were taking care of him, these keychains said ty 4 caring 🙂 Not many people knew this but Dave asked me to do something special for him before he passed. He wanted to give me his money and buy mom a new computer because their computer was crashing and he wanted to get mom one last special surprise gift. He was giving until the day he died.

Here in Nova Scotia today its finally sunny and nice.  Over the weekend me and the family decided to get back into geocaching. The kids had picked up these coins too long ago so just put them in my geocache called “over the hedge” and added many more trinkets because the cache was an absolute mess!  One of the coins I activated and asked them to try and get travelled to New Zealand, Alaska and Europe!  The turtle shaped coin started in the Netherlands, to Germany, then Sweden, Toronto, Canada, and then Nova Scotia.

Applesauce Cinnamon Christmas Ornaments Snowflakes, Trees Easy Making Handmade

I attempted making applesauce cinnamon Christmas ornaments with glue this year. I have seen them before and never tried as I thought it would be expensive..I was wrong, one cup of cinnamon plus some..was only 1.75 at bulk barn in Nova Scotia. I for some reason figured it would be much more expensive for cinnamon.

Applesauce Cinnamon Ornament Dough

Recipe
1 cup of cinnamon
1 tablespoon of cloves
3/4 cup of apple sauce
2 tablespoons of white glue

Other Items
2-3 inch headpins
Cookie cutters
Glitter and more glue
Paint to decorate
Ribbon or hooks
Drying rack
Rolling pin

Directions

4. The mix may be a bit crumbly, you may need to add more apple sauce, but before you do, start kneading, for a while, hard, when it is rolled out it should be smooth, try using only part of the mixture, add more apple sauce as needed, the rolled dough should look like this:

5. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes, I purchased mini cookies cutters from Bulk Barn for 69 cents! Super cheap.

6. Take the headpins and push them in head first then pat the shape down around the headpin, sit and let dry! You can shape the headpins before inserting for easier hanging. I prefer the headpin method as my ornaments are tiny and the hole takes up half of the ornament.

7. Let the ornaments dry, this will take 3-4 days. I do not use the oven drying method as I find more ornaments break.

8. After ornaments dry decorate with paint and or glitter, decorate only one side so the smell can escape! Note if ornament looses smell or freshness, which will take years I hear, sand the back side.

9. Use a hook or ribbon for hanging.  You are done and your house should smell of cinnamon for a week!  After I am done I will be packaging these up to give as gifts for my family and friends Christmas trees.

Allergies Suck! | My Pets, Pug, Hamster, Ducks, Fish and Cat

Living with allergies sucks! I wanted to share my story of living with allergies and how much it sucks and how difficult it can be. Other people in my situation, I feel for you and I do understand!

Growing up I was animal obsessed! I had cats, dogs, guinea pigs,  fish, hamster, turtles, and more that I probably cannot remember! I loved my animals, I loved them all immediately and cried when any of them passed away, even the fish, I am very soft hearted still! I love animals! Unfortunately, as I became older I was diagnosed with severe allergies to dogs and cats and most animals with dander. I was devastated, my mom had to then get rid of our family dog Hugs, and I then lost one more animal I loved in a very different way. We had to give Hugs up for adoption.  Today I am thankful that my mom was strong enough to make that decision for my health, but I knew she and my brother loved Hugs too.

As I got older I tried to fight allergies, my first animal was hamsters, they were soo adorable. This one was Buddy named after the movie Elf. This hamster was awesome, he was so gentle, and funny, I had him litter trained(yes you can litter train hamsters), he had tons of tubes and out posts to play in, and every treat you could imagine, he even got out each night to go for walks in his ball for hours. He was an awesome hamster! The down side, I was severely allergic to his pee. Made it difficult to breathe so scooping his litter every day was a must. There was even a mini litter scoop it was so cute. As time went on, I got ore hamsters and the allergies to them didn’t get better, they got worse. I kept them all until they passed and then no more hamsters, I remained pet free for a while after that.

This is a picture of Dora, she liked baskets and would rip my flowers out and stuff in, it was so cute lolDora and Carl the fish, they liked to hang out:)
I adopted a cat from the SPCA thinking buying a large HEPA filter and grooming the cat(took her to get baths each week) would allow me to have a pet again. Wrong, so wrong, I tired so hard to make life live-able with having a cat and severe allergies, and I was sick a lot while I owned Dora, my doctor could not figure out why I was sick all the time but I could not give her up and she was not super active so that helped and the breed(I went to the spca daily for a while and held one cat, then waited for a reaction, Dora was my lowest reaction). I loved her so much, it was difficult, I couldn’t pick her up and cuddle her like I did as a child with my pets, I couldn’t have her in my bed at night, I could barely have contact with her, it sucked, but she was not a super cuddly cat either so it helped. I’d give in some days and pick her up and cuddle her anyways, then pay for it later.  Dora passed away from illness a few years ago, one of the worst days of my life, she had been in and out of the kitty hospital and she needed a needle in her spine and a pill daily and it was almost impossible to get her to take them. She died in my arms, it was the saddest feeling ever.

After she passed I adopted this little guy:

In order to avoid any kind of reactions, it cialis shipping is important to store the medicine in cool and dry place away from the reach of children, pets and away from light, moisture, and heat. He was such an awesome kitten, however, my allergy reactions to him were INTENSE enough that I had to let him go after having him for only a few weeks. It was so hard. After that I vowed for the animals sake and my own to only adopt hypoallergenic, however, I have not yet found a breed I do not have a reaction to, that I can also afford!

I crave having a pet back in my life, I miss it, but my heath takes a huge hit when I do. I do  visitation with my friends animals and that helps we have Frankie:
He was at a party and everyone was sitting on the floor, Frankie joined in, he’s ADORABLE <3

My newest pets are awesome, my outside ducks! I have tons of ducks in my yard that live here most of the time, and it is awesome, they are super tame and I am not allergic! Now if I could just get them to cuddle and sleep at the foot of my bed I’d be all set lol. They are not scared me of and the kids, and we all love them here is a video of Riley feeding them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4hwbQKHFNQ
In all I have been having that craving lately, I miss having a pet, but I need to remind myself of the pets I can have, and how ill I become when I get pets I am allergic to. I will never stop loving cats and dogs, however, I know that my body limits my interaction with them. 🙁 🙁 🙁 But I am super thankful for ducks and wild birds and ll of the other animals I get to visit and see.

Thankfully I have an awesome family that understands and supports my limits. Thank you Mike, Maddy and Riley, if I was able to, I would have way too many cats and dogs, maybe someday when I can find an animal I am not allergic to so much we can get  pet together.

Also anyone with severe allergies to pets, please message me and let me know of any pets you react well too. Someday I want to own a dog or cat again.

Cinnamon Roll Recipe | Biscuit like | Baking with Maddy

Baking with kids can be a challenge for some, but for me, I find it fun, rewarding, cute and I love it! Maddy is my step daughter and she is such a great help in the kitchen. She listens, she helps and she even wants to help with the dishes afterwards.  Riley is more of the taste tester, and always seems to appreciate that part too:) (recipe below pictures)

This weekend we made Jello and Cinnamon Rolls from scratch(not the can! lol) they actually turned out awesome and I found a cool tip on pinterest for cutting them and made a video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8tvteDKjx4

These are not cinnabon type cinnamon rolls, they are more like a pastry, flaky, biscuit type. They are what I grew up on here in Nova Scotia. We baked half of these one morning an then put the rest in the fridge until the next day and baked them in the morning, GOOD both times but the next day ones were stickier 🙂
